R-22

R-22 is legal to use, buy, and sell back to us even after 2020.

Get the best buy-back market price from one of the leading EPA certified refrigerant reclaimers in the country. We'll pick up your used R-22 refrigerant, or you can drop it off at our store.

We’ll exchange the same size DOT compliant cylinders and pay you for every bit of reclaimable refrigerant your return. And we'll send a check-in about 30 days with a full report of your cylinder's contents.

And if you have refrigerant you need disposed of, we’ll pick it up, or you can drop it off at our store, and we’ll exchange your cylinder(s) for a new cylinder(s). Plus, we’ll take care of all the EPA paperwork. There would be a small disposal and service fee.

Virgin vs. Reclaimed R-22: Does It Matter?

As R-22 is phased out of production and importation, virgin R-22 is becoming hard to find and more expensive.

Is it worth it?

Contractors don’t want to compromise service to their customers, so many ask:

Is there a difference between virgin and reclaimed R-22?

In short, no.

Here are three things contractors should know:

  1. Reclaimed is not recycled. Reclaimed refrigerant is often confused with recycled refrigerant, but they are vastly different. Recycling simply reduces a refrigerant’s contaminants using oil separation and filtration processes. In fact, recycled refrigerant should only be used in the same piece of equipment from which it was recovered.

  2. Reclamation entails filtering, drying, distillation, and chemical processes that strip the refrigerant of impurities. In order to achieve “reclaim” status, the EPA requires these refrigerants to meet ARI-700 purity standards – the same standards required of virgin refrigerants.

  3. New (virgin) and reclaimed refrigerants are the exact same purity.

From 2020 on, no new R-22 will be imported into the country or manufactured here.

But reclaimed R-22 will still be perfectly legal to buy, sell and use.
